Manuka versus Jarrah

In the world of natural remedies, honey has long been celebrated for its remarkable health benefits. One variety that's gaining attention for its potent healing properties is Jarrah honey, hailing from the pristine forests of Western Australia this unique honey derived from the nectar of the Jarrah tree (Eucalyptus Marginata) stands out not only for its rich, caramel-like taste but also for its impressive therapeutic qualities.

Health Benefits of Jarrah Honey:

1. Antibacterial Power: Like its better-known counterpart, Manuka honey, Jarrah honey possesses strong antibacterial properties. It's particularly effective against bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, making it a valuable natural treatment for wounds and infections

2. Anti-inflammatory Properties: Jarrah honey has been found to have significant anti-inflammatory effects, which can aid in soothing sore throats and reducing inflammation in various parts of the body

3. Antioxidant Content: Rich in antioxidants like phenolic acids and flavonoids, Jarrah honey helps combat oxidative stress and supports overall cellular health

4. Digestive Health: Consuming Jarrah honey may promote digestive health by aiding in the growth of beneficial gut bacteria and soothing gastrointestinal discomfort

5. Wound Healing: Due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, Jarrah honey can accelerate wound healing and reduce the risk of infection when applied topically.

Advantages Over Manuka Honey:

While both Jarrah and Manuka honey offer similar health benefits, Jarrah honey is prized for its higher levels of antioxidants and antimicrobial activity. Its specific composition, influenced by the Jarrah tree's unique floral sources and environment, gives it a distinct edge in terms of therapeutic efficacy. Moreover, Jarrah honey tends to have a milder taste compared to the stronger, more medicinal flavour of Manuka honey, making it a preferred choice for those who prefer a less intense honey experience.

Total Activity Vs MGO

We are often asked, what is the MGO or UMF rating for our Jarrah honey? However UMF - which stands for Unique Manuka Factor - and MGO - which stands for Methylgloxal - test for bioactivity markers that are exclusively found in Manuka honey and it is therefore not possible to use these same tests on Jarrah. To help you compare apples with apples, we have made a handy correlation table - where you can see that the our TA35+ Jarrah honey is equivalent in potency to some of the highest quality Manuka Honeys.

Whether you're looking to support your immune system, soothe a sore throat, or enhance your overall well-being, Jarrah honey stands out as a natural powerhouse. Its robust health benefits, coupled with its delicious taste, make it a valuable addition to any health-conscious individual's pantry. Consider integrating our TA35+ Jarrah honey into your daily routine and experience the remarkable benefits it has to offer.

Yes absolutely Jarrah is a great choice for supporting gut health! All of our bioactive honeys are great prebiotics (Jarrah, Marri and Yarri) – which means that they are the perfect food for feeding the good bacteria in your gut. The best thing for positive gut health is a daily serve of yoghurt (a probiotic) with honey (a prebiotic). Jarrah is a great option as it is both a wonderful prebiotic as well being highly antimicrobial.
